1. Who We Are
TreasureCompass ("we", "us", "our") is a metal detecting research and field companion platform operated from the Netherlands. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact us at hello@treasurecompass.net.
2. What Data We Collect
We collect only the data needed to provide the service:
- Account data — username, email address, and a hashed password when you register.
- Location data — GPS tracks and pinned spots that you choose to record while using the app. This data belongs to you and is never shared without your consent.
- Finds data — photos, descriptions, depth, and GPS coordinates of items you log in the app.
- Usage data — standard server access logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) used for security and performance monitoring. These are not linked to your account for analytics purposes.
3. How We Use Your Data
- To provide and improve the TreasureCompass platform and app.
- To display your research spots, tracks, and finds back to you.
- To allow group hunt features where you choose to share your live location with your group.
- To send essential service communications (account activation, security notices).
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data to third parties.
4. Data Sharing
Your location data, finds, and tracks are private by default. You may optionally mark individual finds as public, which makes them visible to other logged-in users on the platform. You can revert this at any time.
We share data with third parties only where strictly necessary to operate the service (e.g., server hosting at Linode/Akamai). All processors are bound by data processing agreements.
5. AI Scan
When you use the AI Scan feature, a bounding box (map coordinates) and LiDAR image data from the selected area are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for analysis. No personal data or account information is included in these requests. Anthropic's privacy policy governs their use of this data.
6. Data Retention
Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing hello@treasurecompass.net. We will action deletion requests within 30 days.
7. Security
Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms and are never stored in plain text. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Access to production systems is restricted and logged.
8. Your Rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Object to or restrict processing of your data
- Data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format

9. Cookies
We use a minimal number of functional cookies to keep you logged in (JWT tokens stored in localStorage). We do not use third-party tracking or advertising cookies.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or a prominent notice on the platform. Continued use of TreasureCompass after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
